We took the new dive boat to the Cooper River for its first Cooper dive adventure. I wanted to try out a couple of ideas for diving solo and they worked good. The boat performed perfectly.

My friend Andy gave me the idea to use a kayak as a buoy to mark my position in the river so Sandy would know where I was. The idea is you hook a small anchor or weight to an anchor line attached to the kayak. You drop the line to the bottom and descend the line. You move the weight around with you on the bottom and when you are done, you ascend the line to the kayak. This idea works perfectly. I made the line 65 feet long. That gave it some slack to compensate for the current. The anchor I used was a 10 pound hook which was very light weight to use. The current in the river keeps tension on the line so there is no danger of it getting tangled in the dive gear.
