Field Trip Report:
Buck Creek,
Clay County, N.C.
June 29th-July 4th, 2005Many new M.A.G.M.A. members joined us for the weeks trip, it is always great to meet a new club member every time I go on a field trip.
New M.A.G.M.A. members Ron Denton and his Wife with two of their friends. (Ron and his Wife are the couple on the right).
Me and Chris examining some of Chris's specimens collected at his "secret" location.
We decided to hit the old standby, the Herbert Mine to begin the weeks adventures. Many corundum hunters won't dig the Herbert, lack of color etc. tend to send people to other locations. I have always had good success at the Herbert. The color varies from white to light blue/gray and very rarely pink or red.
As you cross the field heading to the Herbert you will encounter several varieties of wild flowers, members took some nice pics of some of them.
Chris, Annie, Jim, Pat and Ernie at the Herbert Mine.
Jim Ellis working the creek.
Ernie screening for sapphires.
Annie chill'n in the creek.
Bob taking a break on the dump piles.
I know those sapphires are down there, if I stand here long enough one will jump up and bite me on the nose!
