Field Trip Report:
Crabtree Emerald Mine
Thanksgiving Weekend Dig!
November 24th-26th, 2006
Time for my report on the fantastic dig we had at the Crabtree Mine a couple of weeks ago, I know, i'm a slacker, I've been working on some top secret stuff here at home and have gotten behind on my reports. The trip started early for some members, Cathy and Ed camped out at the mine earlier in the week, and some of the other members also showed up a day or so early. I arrived Friday morning and setup my camp and waited for the machine to arrive. Then it was dig, dig, dig. We moved tons of earth. For some, the emeralds and beryl were easy to find, for others, not so easy. I took a few pics of some of the finds I heard about, some got away that I heard about later. It is hard to run the machine, fill out forms, collect money, and take pics at the same time, so yes, I missed a few specimen pics.
We had new members of MAGMA, Forsythe County, Gaston County, Charlotte, and the Kingsport Tennessee Club at the dig, so if I forgot some names, please forgive me, it is hard to keep track of everyone.
