Fieldtrip Report:

Diamond Hill Quartz Mine,
Antreville, S.C.,
March 5th and 6th, 2005

______________________

I broke out "Bertha" the 20 pound sledge, you would be amazed at what a 20 pounder can find in a big boulder, here are some of the larger pieces I found inside some rocks:

30 pound specimen with a pocket of white and clear skeletal quartz crystals.

80 pound specimen of large skeletal quartz crystals in a pocket, this piece started off around 200 pounds.

Finding the large crystals undamaged is hard to do, but when they are inside a boulder, they have a much better chance of being protected like these.

Backside of above specimen.

Pocket near the top of the above specimen, it looks like the large skeletal crystal is holding up the top of the specimen.

Working the pit!, Andrea, Richard, Steve, Robert, David, and Cindi.

Steve Barr and some new members, Ken, James and Allen.

A specimen does not have to be huge to be nice, here are a couple of small pieces I salvaged:

1" twin crystals.

Phantom crystal, less than an inch long and smaller than a pencil!

Coated crystals 1" high.
