Fieldtrip Report:

Diamond Hill Quartz Mine,
Antreville, S.C.,
March 5th and 6th, 2005

______________________

Sunday morning came early, but that didn't matter, we were all anxious to get started.

Eric and Ryan found these cool rocks, actually they were frost covered from sitting out all night.

Out of all the specimens found this weekend, I think this one ranked near the top, it is a cabinet sized specimen of skeletal quartz crystals, it sits perfectly by itself with no damage, it was collected by our member Troy.

Another specimen collected by Troy.

As the end of the day came, I heard a groaning noise coming from the parking area, I went to investigate, it turned out to be John D's car crying in pain, Marvin had loaded it down with about 500 pounds of crystal specimens!

Marvin and his rocks.

One of the large crystal plates that Frank and Marvin collected, this one is Franks.

Below are a few more pieces I collected:

Another product of "Bertha", these lemon yellow crystals were in a pocket completely hidden in a boulder.

This is one of my favorites, quartz crystals covered with a dark orange coating with manganese tips on the crystals.

Pineapple cluster, I have a large cluster like this one that is being cleaned, it will be added to the report later.

Quartz cluster, 1.5"

Pure white quartz crystals recovered from a cavity in a boulder.
