Fieldtrip Report:
Diamond Hill Mine,
Antreville, S.C.,
November 14th-16th, 2008photos by: Rick Jacquot and Ray Glave
Our latest trip to the Diamond Hill Mine was nothing less than spectacular, despite the bad weather the first day.
I arrived Thursday afternoon and setup my camp. Chet had some heavy gravel delivered for the driveway entrance which proved to be a great help throughout the weekend with the rain on Friday. I built a fire and waited for the first members to arrive.
Friday morning the members began to arrive before sun up. By early morning, the parking lot was packed with amethyst hunters. It seems the rainy day did not affect the MAGMA members or their desire to hunt rocks!
By 9:00 a.m., big crystals were already beginning to appear.

As the day wore on, I saw many huge crystal clusters loaded into waiting pickup trucks.
