Fieldtrip Report:

Jackson Crossroads,
Wilkes County, Ga.
March 11th, 2006

We had a great trip to the JXR dig site this weekend. The M.A.G.M.A. Club along with the Carroll County, Ga. Club spent the day Saturday digging for the purple gems, many of the members had great success finding very nice specimens of facet and specimen grade amethyst. Rodney has done a lot of work at the site and it looks totally different than it did just a couple of months ago.

Nancy (Chunkfinder) Seavers

Main pit, full of water.

Steve Barr, "Damn reporters!"

John D. and his legendary rake.

Ron Seaver also tried the rake method, he also is hiding the "lucky horseshoe" and would not give it back to John, a good move on Rons part as he came out with the best gem quality crystal of the day.

Rons fat crystal, a little smaller than a golfball.

Of course after a great find, Ron was obligated to do the "Rockhounds Happy Dance"

"Rockhounds Happy Dance"

Working the piles

There is a ton of material to search through and plenty of rocks to break with the sledge hammer.

A boy in the Carroll Co. club found this fat crystal.
