People just ignored the blazing sun and kept on going.
It seemed like no rock was left unturned.
Throughout the day, Terry Ledford kept bringing more rocks out of the pit for our members and guests to work on.
In a photo that epitomizes the true spirit of the Mountain Area Gem and Mineral Society, Nancy shares a special moment (and a piece of amethyst) with a young fellow on the first rockhounding trip he's ever been on.
His grandfather brought seven year-old Logan to JXR for his first campout, first dig and first time he had ever been away from home overnight. That little guy was so phenomenal at finding amethyst, I told him that he had gone from being a "rockpup" to a rockhound in just one day.
Logan found a variety of crystals, ranging from small ones to several that were quite large. For two days straight, it seemed like every time I saw him he was standing on a dump pile holding up yet another nice piece of amethyst, shaking his booty and doing the "Rockhound Dance"!
The big smile says it all!
So...you're probably itching to see some of the specimens that everyone found, aren't you? Without further ado, I'll just throw a bunch of photos up here, just to show a portion of what was found...
