Field Trip Report:
Crabtree Emerald Mine Photos by Rick Jacquot I left at 6:00 a.m. to meet with the rest of the club members at the Crabtree Mine for our Saturday dig. We had about 25 members for the dig which I thought was pretty good since many of them were out in Kentucky for the fluorite dig. The sun burning off the morning haze. Not long after the dig started this young member found a piece of matrix with some purple fluorite. I was checking out the old crane wondering what it would take to get it running again??? Then I spotted what I thought was a mechanic working on it! It turned out to be Mark Reep digging for emeralds... Keith Leary A little beryl. A little bit of green showing. David Hotelling brought his water pump, it is amazing what is in the dumps just under the surface. Lee A little more green. And a little more green, this one will make a nice cabochon.
