Fieldtrip Report:

Diamond Hill Mine,
Antreville, S.C.,
October 21-22-23, 2005

It's time for yet another fieldtrip report from Diamond Hill, I know what you're thinking, what else could there be to report after all the trips our club has had there this year?. Every trip to Diamond Hill is a new adventure, especially when you have Chunky and his trackhoe on site. The trip began Friday with just a few M.A.G.M.A. members arriving to setup camp for the weekend. Chet and Chunky were there planning on where to dig, soon the dirt was flying and by Friday afternoon, Dave, one of Chets crew had recovered some nice specimens from the Smoky Pit. We had Chunky do quite a bit of work in the skeletal pit as well. Saturday many more members began to arrive and the trackhoe was back at work bright and early, soon many nice specimens began to make their appearance.

Chet taking a snack break.

Lee in the Amethyst pit which I now refer to as, "The Mystery Pit".

Workers in the "Mystery Pit".

Whitney working the wall.

Ben, "I found the hole", inside joke!

Richard and Shirley Green.

One of the most interesting specimens found this weekend was what we think may be the largest amethyst point ever collected at Diamond Hill, found by our new M.A.G.M.A. member Don King, I just have to brag about his great find, and it is even better that it was recovered by one of our club members 8^)

Don "The Amethyst" King

Dons 6 pound amethyst point, it is slightly water worn, it has several transparent areas that would cut huge faceted stones but I think Don is going to save it as a specimen.
